DUNDEE & ST ANDREWS

...a flavour of Scotland

AUGUST
from Monday 22nd until Saturday 27th
6 Day East Coast Coach Tour

3***BW Invercarse Hotel Perth Road Dundee.

Famous for its cake and marmalade, Dundee was also a major ship-building centre in the 18th and 19th century a period which is recreated in the Victoria Docks. Berthed at Riverside is the Royal Research Ship, Discovery. Built here in 1901 for the first of Captain Scott’s voyages to the Antarctic the Discovery was one of the last ships to be made in Britain. The Victoria and Albert is a design museum in Dundee, Scotland, which opened on 15 September 2018 and the first V&A museum outside of London. St Andrews is Scotland’s oldest university town and one time ecclesiastical capital.

Tuesday Arbroath, Dundee & Afternoon Tea
On the trail of the famous Smokie, a coastal drive takes us through the golf town of Carnoustie then onwards to Arbroath. Steeped in maritime history the Signal Tower Museum tells tales of the town and its famous fish. Back to discover Dundee and enjoy an Afternoon tea of Scottish delights at 4* Hotel Indigo, a converted Scottish Jute Mill.

Wednesday St Andrews and Guided tour
St Andrews isn’t only famous for golf. Enjoy a guided tour to enlighten you. Its main street and cobbled alleys full of crooked housefronts, dignified university buildings and medieval churches converge on the venerable ruins of the 12th c cathedral. Afterwards enjoy free time in St Andrews.

Thursday Royal Deeside and Ballater
Travelling north toward Aberdeen we take the route to Royal Deeside and Royal town of Ballater. Since Queen Victoria’s purchase of the Balmoral Estate in 1852 for 30,000 guineas Deeside has been best known as the summer home of the Royal Family

Friday Glamis Castle
Follow the river Tay to Glamis, and soon the pinnacle outline of a Loire chateau comes into view. Glamis Castle has been the ancestral seat to the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne since 1372, inspiration for Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and birthplace of HRH The Princess Margaret. Following our visit, we make a final visit to Dundee before travelling home tomorrow.
