GRAND HEBRIDEAN ADVENTURE

"...where time stands still"

JULY
from Tuesday 2nd July until Wednesday 10th
9 Day Hebridean Adventure 11.30am Stena Ferry
By coach from pickups in Northern Ireland
1 Night Loch Lomond – 2 Nights Benbecula - 3 Nights Stornoway - 2 Nights Pitlochry

At the northwest edge of Europe, lies a chain of islands so tranquil it feels like another world. The Hebrides offer unrivalled beaches, culture, wildlife and adventure. Nowhere else will you find such diversity of tradition and heritage, all peaceful, pristine and shaped only by the hands of the creator and ‘time and tide’. Every island has its own very distinct culture and heritage, but there is one thing all the Hebridean islands have in common: the hospitality of the people. To the newcomer, it may feel as if time has stood still in the Hebrides. Join us for a leisurely tour through spectacular scenery and stay at hotels of character where you will receive a real island welcome. With the help of a local guide we’ll show you in comfort the remote areas of Scotland.

Fort William & Isle of Skye
Following pickups in Northern Ireland on Tuesday 2nd July we catch the 11.30am Superfast ferry from Belfast to Cairnryan. Soon after that wonderful scenery unfolds as we enter the Scottish Highlands. Overnight near Loch Lomond. Next day time free in Fort William, in the shadow of mighty Ben Nevis before heading north passing famous Eilean Donan Castle - the 2nd most photographed castle in Scotland. Before leaving Fort William area we will visit ‘Neptune’s Staircase’ the fascination series of lochs on the Caledonian Canal.

The Uists Scenic drive across Skye.
Catch the evening sailing to North Uist and travel to Dark Island Hotel on Benbecula. Next day spent touring the Uists passing tiny lochs and impressive beaches. Explore a wildlife-rich grassland haven on the beautiful Scottish island of North Uist. The stunning Hebridean Nature Sanctuary, Balranald has sweeping sandy beaches, a rocky foreshore, wild marshes and sculpted sand dunes. It's the perfect place to learn about traditional crofting agriculture, corncrakes and other wildlife.

Isle of Harris
Board the sailing to the largest of the Hebridean Islands - Harris. A rugged landscape of moorland, deep-sea lochs, and mountains. Against this backdrop is a proud history dating back to prehistoric times. We travel along the spine of the island to the capital Stornoway for the next 3 nights. Visit the ‘Blackhouses’ and try to imagine what life must have been life for these Islanders in former times. Walk on some ‘picture postcard’ beaches with no other person around just your tour friends!

Guided Tour of Lewis
Full day tour of Lewis, with an experienced island guide, including the impressive 5,000-year-old standing stones of Callanish (Scotland’s Stonehenge, but older). Ancient thatched “Blackhouses”, typical of crofting settlements. Imposing Carloway Broch, a fortified tower dating back over 2,000 years. Finishing with a visit to a Tweed Mill, explaining the history of the famous Harris Tweed. During this tour we will worship in Barvas Church of Scotland where the ‘spiritual awakening’ of the 1950’s took place on the Isle of Lewis and elsewhere on the Islands. We will meet some of the people changed by that revival with opportunity to talk to them and listen as they recall the facts that surrounded the awakening in the 1950’s and fellowship with believers.

The group will be limited in size to 30 persons, since many of the hotels cannot accommodate more. The four hotels used for this tour are of a good standard with en-suite bedrooms, however please note that some of these hotels do not have a lift to all bedroom floors.

Highland Landscapes & Spey Valley
We catch the ferry for the 2 ½ hour sailing to Ullapool, followed by a glorious drive across the sweep of the Highlands to Inverness with time free in the Highland Capital - Inverness. Continue south through picturesque Speyside and into Perthshire for your final two nights stay in Highland Pitlochry. On Wednesday 10th July we leave Pitlochry behind and travel south on the scenic A9 for the 7.30pm Stena Superferry sailing from Cairnryan and due in Belfast at 9.45pm followed by coach transfer to your set-down point in Northern Ireland.
