OBAN MULL

...and the Sacred Isle of Iona

Monday Jun 15th until 19th
5 Day Amazing Coach Tour
3***Columba Hotel Oban

This sought after destination based in the seaside resort of Oban is a new tour in our programme of tours – “The Gateway to the Isles”. Come along and see some of the most stunning scenery in the British Isles travelling along Lochside-roads with mountains towering above you. Feel the wind in your hair as you cruise to the beautiful Isle of Mull and ancient Iona.

Tuesday Oban & Seil Island
Morning at leisure to explore Oban. After lunch a half day tour to Seil Island - 9 miles from Oban. To get there you cross over the 18th century “Bridge over the Atlantic”, before travelling across the island to Easdale. Seil Island is particularly picturesque with whitewashed fisherman’s cottages and was the setting for the film Ring of Brightwater. It was also world famous for slate quarrying and in it hay-day exported over 6 million tonnes a year across the world and evidence of this can still be clearly seen today. (33 miles).

Wednesday Isles of Mull and Iona
Board the ferry with your coach for the 55-minute crossing to the beautiful Isle of Mull. The island excursion takes you south passing imposing Duart Castle to Fionnphort. Here you board the short ferry journey, as foot passengers, to the sacred Isle of Iona. Wander round the island at leisure, with its white sandy beach and pathways. Iona is an island of pilgrimage and recognised as the birthplace of Christianity in the UK. Entry is included into the famous Abbey, the resting place of over 100 Scottish Kings. Arriving back in Oban around 1800hrs. (70 miles).

Thursday Fort William & Lovely Lochaber
Hugging the shoreline of the loch you reach Fort William at the foot of Ben Nevis – Britain’s highest mountain. After spending time in the town, the tour travels to nearby Neptunes Staircase. Here, you can see boats of all shapes and sizes navigating the 8 locks of the Caledonian Canal. Our Lochaber day continues to Gairlochy, along the side of this well-known canal, stopping for photos and to take in the terrific views of Ben Nevis and the Great Glen at the famed Commando Monument. (22 miles).

The Columba Hotel
We believe the 3***Columba is the best hotel in Oban for groups. Its central harbour side location means everything is close by and 47 of its 49 rooms has either a sea or town view. The inside of the hotel is in good shape with constant improvements being made yet retaining many of its traditional Victorian features.

This tour begins with coach pick-ups from mid-Ulster to Belfast on Monday 15th June for the 7.30am Stena sailing to Cairnryan and onward by coach with comfort and meal stops en-route, expecting to arrive the Columba Hotel in time to freshen up before dinner. We return home on Friday 19th on the 7.30pm Stena sailing from Cairnryan, due in Belfast 9.45pm followed by JMB coach transfer to your set-down point in Northern Ireland.
