5 Day Easter Tour

4****Ashdown Park Hotel

Following many years of Easter tours in Great Britain we have decided to make our Easter 2020 tour in the Republic of Ireland visiting three eastern counties Wexford, Wicklow and Kildare based in a favourite hotel the Ashdown Park Hotel for the four nights of this holiday. The south east, which has the country’s best climate, has something for everyone, from busy seaside resorts to quaint canal side villages. The Wicklow Mountains, the location of several major sights such as the monastic complex at Glendalough and the magnificent gardens of Powerscourt provide perfect touring territory.

Orchard Home and Garden and Castletown House
Travelling south on our first day we enjoy lunch in Orchard Home & Garden followed by a good browse in a wonderful home and garden shop. Next, we travel a short distance to Castletown House a Palladian mansion near Celbridge, built in 1722 for William Connoly the Speaker for the Irish House of Commons and the wealthiest commoner in Ireland at that time.

Ashdown Park Hotel and Gorey town
Ashdown Park Hotel Gorey is an elegant and tranquil hotel, part of the Redmond Hotel Group, a family run hotel located in the Sunny South East of North Wexford in the picturesque town of Gorey. Situated in its own private grounds it is minutes away from the busy market town of Gorey, which we explore on Tuesday.

Johnston Castle - Wexford and Courtown Harbour
Johnstown Castle Estate, Museum & Gardens has a long and colourful story stretching over 800 years. Situated outside Wexford town in Ireland’s south east, it is not only a significant property of national importance but a place of great romantic charm and tranquillity. The spectacular lake walks, walled gardens and sculptures all offer the beautiful setting for the great 19th-century castle. Short visit to Wexford town is followed by a coastal drive north to Courtown for a walk on the beach.

Kildare Outlet - Hunting Brook Gardens - Wicklow Gap
Experience the Wicklow Mountains today travelling through the Wicklow Gap on our return from Hunting Brook Gardens at Blessington situated on the sunny, south-facing flanks of Lamb Hill in the foothills of the lofty Wicklow mountains, Hunting Brook garden is the boldly idiosyncratic creation of Jimi Blake. From flowers to fashion the fashion conscious in our party will appreciate our morning visit to Kildare Outlet – I just hope there is a sale on!

Brittas Bay and Powerscourt and Northern Ireland
Brittas Bay is one of the finest beaches on the East Coast, with a 5km stretch of beautiful white sand dunes and clean beaches. This beach has won a European Union (EU) Blue Flag – the international emblem for the highest quality beach areas in Europe – for five consecutive years. With no headlands to interfere with the peaceful rhythm, it is ideal for bathing, sailing and walking. Next, we are on to Powerscourt to enjoy gardens and the restaurant. Finally, we travel north to our homeland.

Our Easter tour begins with coach pickups from mid-Ulster to Belfast at 8.30am on Monday and onward via Armagh to Newry and south with comfort and snack stop at AppleGreen Dundalk before our lunch stop at Orchard Home & Garden. We move from OHG to Castletown Mansion our final visit today hoping to arrive Ashdown Park Hotel by 5.30pm this evening.
