DALES and LAKELAND EXPLORER

'....in Cumbria'

AUGUST/SEPTEMBER
from Monday 28th August
until Friday 1st September
5 Day Holiday Tour
By coach from pickups in Northern Ireland.

A predominantly rural county, Cumbria is considered one of the most beautiful regions of the United Kingdom and includes the whole of the Lake District, the Eden Valley, the North Pennines, the Furness Peninsula, and part of the Yorkshire Dales. For this new tour we have selected a countryside setting staying at the Shap Wells Hotel – perfectly set to enjoy the planned and distinctly different days out. Firstly the Lake District with a cruise on its most famous lake – Windermere. Included is entry into a multi award winning historic house and gardens. Finishing with a day out in the Yorkshire Dales with a railway journey on part of the famous Settle – Carlisle Railway.

SHAP WELLS HOTEL (www.shapwells.com) is a 3***Best Western Hotel situated in a secluded, wooded valley, high in the Shap Fells and surrounded by mountain streams yet only minutes from the M6 and the A6. BEST WESTERN Shap Wells Hotel is the ideal place from which to explore the Lakes, Dales and the English and Scottish Border Counties. Surrounded by open and wooded countryside, red deer, red squirrels and other wildlife within the grounds of the hotel and beyond. The 98 bedrooms which have recently been refurbished are designed to suit the requirements of the modern hotel guest with comfort and convenience in mind. All bedrooms are equipped with TV, alarm clock and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities.

LEIGHTON HALL (www.leightonhall.co.uk) The ancestral home of the world-renowned Gillow furniture family, Leighton Hall is still lived in today and is no stuffy museum – there aren’t any roped off areas here! Our friendly and enthusiastic guides will be happy to share with you the magic of Leighton Hall’s colourful heritage and unique "personality" during your visit to our house and gardens. As well as landscaped parkland and woodland walks, Leighton is the home of a very pretty 19th century walled garden. This garden is the realm and the passion of Mrs Suzie Gillow Reynolds.

THE SETTLE–CARLISLE LINE (www.settle-carlislerailway.co.uk) is arguably the most scenic railway route in the United Kingdom. Originally constructed in the 1870s the (72-mile) rail line connects Leeds to Carlisle. It is widely held to be one of the best constructed and engineered railway lines in England and is rightly considered to be a masterpiece of Victorian engineering that crosses some of the most challenging terrain and environments in the North of England. It is famous for its stunning route that cuts through the beautiful scenery of the Yorkshire Dales, over the 24 arches of the breath taking Ribblehead Viaduct, through the Blea Moor tunnel, before scaling the heights of the Ais Gill in the Mallerstang valley.
