England's largest National Park is home to Scafell Pike - its highest mountain, Wastwater its deepest lake and thriving communities like Bowness-on-Windermere. The heart of the Lake District National Park has a grandeur all of its own. Delightful Lakeland towns, inspiring mountains and sixteen sparkling lakes has made the Lake District one of the most beautiful and best loved regions in the UK. All of the diverse visits included will add real enjoyment to this Houses Castles and Gardens tour. Space does not permit a description of all these visits however just to mention one of the visits, Levens Hall and Gardens; one of the best-loved stately homes in Britain, owned by the Bagot family. It is magnificently situated in south Lakeland not far from our hotel and the M6 motorway. Levens Hall has six gardens for us to enjoy, Orchard garden, the Topiary garden, Herbaceous borders, Rose garden, Herb garden and the 17th Century garden. Laid out in the 1690s, the garden amazingly still retains many of its original features. It’s very special atmosphere is partly felt through a great sense of continuity. Those three centuries of garden making here have made it a magical place.
